This Week at The Woodshed
We are very excited to re open next week! Our whole team has had a lovely break, full of travel and adventure as well as time at home. We will be back in the kitchen later this week, getting ready to re open on Wednesday, February 19. We have put together a lovely pre order menu for our first week back; full of inspiration and flavours from our time away.
I have had the wonderful privilege this month of spending time in the beautiful Byron Bay Hinterland, Australia (as pictured above) with our family. There is a very vibrant food, wine and farming culture here that leaves me very inspired every time I visit. Spending time amongst the lush green rolling hills, gorgeous farmland, endless beaches and wonderful people have made this one my favourite places in the world. The lush, warm climate of the Hinterland provides the ideal growing climate for the tropical fruits and vegetables that we adore, as well perfect growing conditions for many of the gorgeous tomatoes, herbs, beets, carrots, pumpkins and other vegetables that we grow and cook with at home. I will head home to our beautiful little Canadian island in a few days with a full heart, inspired and excited to begin a wonderful new season at the shop!
I am bringing a touch of Australian flavour home with me for our first pre order menu; we will be making a lovely passionfruit tart with a touch of our local Saltspring Island citrus. We head out each morning to gather passionfruit for our breakfast from the vine in the garden; a true highlight of our time here. Passionfruit is one of my favourite fruits, we just can’t get enough of the incredible beauty, fragrance and flavour of this glorious fruit.
Our pre order menu also features a Crab bisque, rich with just- harvested Dungeness crab, cream and soft herbs. We have a gorgeous grass finished Steak au Poivre on the menu, a wild salmon with a dijon and herb crust, an early Spring salad with local citrus and candied walnuts and a lovely French onion tart with local onions, gruyère cheese and thyme from our garden. Please place your order by Wednesday, February 19. Orders will be ready for pick up in the shop on Friday, February 21 between 2-5pm.
We are excited to be back in the kitchen and look forward to seeing you in the shop next week!
